The Old Lady

This afternoon was very upsetting. I was at Trader Joe’s and watched an old lady use a shopping cart as a walker as she walked to her car. She could barely walk. It seemed as if every step she took was excruciating for her. There was nothing in her cart 🛒. I hoped someone had helped her put groceries into her car. Even then I didn’t know how she’d get them from her car to her home. Cold stuff would wither in the Texas heat. She could barely move. Her car was a tiny old Kia. It was old and extremely affordable, even when new, but now it was ancient. I honestly felt that her days were numbered, and she had no one. No kids, no partner, no retirement savings to afford help. She will probably be dying alone and in the near future. What was her story? Was she truly alone? Family? Friends? Children? I wanted to help, but I did nothing. I did nothing. I cannot save everyone and am working on saving myself right now, but I did nothing. How many more people are passing away without much hope or happiness or dignity in their life? Why don’t more people care. Still I did nothing. What can I do now?
